Irania B Garcia
I am a dancer, choreographer, educator, and advocate for the arts. Each of these roles is critical to my artistic identity. I am passionate about making art that empowers, awakens imagination, and builds a safe space for people to explore their creative voice. In all aspects of my work, I rely on bodies sources for creativity and communication. I am passionate about bringing dance to the public, exposing art to new audiences, interacting, and creating community for dance, art, and multimedia works. I believe dance is a process that can make you question or find answers. To be an instrument, and to be inspired and to inspire the world with art. While currently enrolled at Hollins University pursuing MFA in Dance, I continue to direct, teach, and mentor younger dancers and movement artists. Cultivating collaboration between local and international artists, with a strong focus on the Hispanic/ Latinx voices of Pittsburg. My work exhibits a powerful balance of Classical, Contemporary Movimiento and Release techniques. Creating work for stage/ film focusing on artistic narratives, explored through the moment. Dance satisfies me not only artistically, but it feeds my hunger to be part of something larger than ourselves. Dance is an open dialogue, utilizing voice and our bodies. It brings an expression to communities that is inspiring. I am grateful be able to connect with people through my artistic practice and to live through culture
